Empowering Families and Communities: A Fulfilling Three-Month Workshop Journey!

Empowering Families and Communities: A Fulfilling Three-Month Workshop Journey!   Dr. Soraya Fallah "Walk to Wellness" aims to foster physical fitness, mental health, community cohesion, and education, promoting healthy living, disease prevention, family bonding, environmental awareness, and empowerment within a community through regular walking and wellness activities. Parents, particularly women empowerment was the main component of this series. They are equipping participants with the knowledge, skills, and support to take control of their health and make positive lifestyle changes. To accomplish this, I developed distinct themes tailored to align with the identity of my school. These themes encompassed aspects like physical and mental health, diabetes, cardiovascular health, building self-esteem, and strategies for staying motivated. In each session, I introduced a nutritious recipe to underscore the significance of our dietary choices and promote healthy eating. This was

Repetition of a Harsh Reality in the Lives and Deaths of Iranian Girls; Story of Kurdish Teen Armita Garavand

Repetition of a Harsh Reality in the Lives and Deaths of Iranian Girls,  Story of Kurdish-Iranian Teenager Armita By: Soraya Fallah Over the past few days, distressing news about Armita Geravand has flooded the internet. She was a Kurdish-Iranian girl who fell into a coma on the Tehran Metro on 1 October 2023 at the young age of 16. After being held in the ICU of an Army hospital, she was declared brain dead on 22 October 2023. This tragic news immediately brought to mind the killing of Jina Mahsa Amini, making me wonder if anyone is holding the Iranian government accountable or if they are granted impunity. I try to picture Armita's mother, likely in Kermanshah's cemetery, if allowed, trying to make sense of the senseless, surrounded by the memories and echoes of a life cut tragically short. As I delve into the news reports, my thoughts drift, picturing my hometown, the Aichi cemetery in the western Kurdish city of Saqqez. The weight of the graveyard comes to mind, remin

I chose CSUN because I was looking for a valuable university that offered more than just traditional education. I pursued a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at CSUN. My experience at CSUN was highly positive; I felt valued and belonged, especially while working at the Center for Teaching and Learning.

In this brief interview, I discussed the 94-page report by the Human Rights Campaign in Iran and the Kurdistan Human Rights Network published on Wednesday, September 5th, titled "Javanrood: The Fire of Governance Over Empty Hands and Bastions of People's Anger." The report talks about the occurrence of massacre and human rights abuses in Javanrood, Iran, in the past year. Iranian security forces attacked protesters, resulting in the deaths of 8 individuals, including a child, and leaving at least 80 injured. The report offers recommendations to the international community, including the formation of a UN Truth-Finding Commission to investigate the events and hold those responsible accountable. The significance of this report includes summoning Iranian ambassadors, global awareness of human rights violations, pressuring the Iranian government for investigation and accountability, and upholding human rights worldwide. This report
