On Saturday, February 1, 2025, the 6th Annual Model United Nations Conference (VRMUN 2025) brought together hundreds of motivated young delegates at GHCMUN. Known for tackling global issues with a dynamic approach, GHCMUN has earned accolades at prestigious conferences like BMUN (UC Berkeley), HMUN (Harvard), and the National High School Model United Nations at the UN Headquarters.

A highlight of this year's conference was the participation of the United Nations Association of the San Fernando Valley (UNA-SFV) Board of Directors, who provided invaluable guidance as advisors and guest speakers.

Inspiring Leadership and Advocacy

Deputy Secretary-General Stephanie Dinh introduced the UNA-SFV speakers, starting with President David Tuckman. He delivered a compelling message on the history of the chapter, drawing from his extensive volunteer work with the Red Cross, the National Young Professionals Taskforce, and the U.S. Government. His words inspired delegates to recognize how local actions can influence global change.

Following Mr. Tuckman, Dr. Soraya Fallah, Co-Vice President of UNA-SFV, shared her journey, highlighting the importance of global advocacy and local engagement. From her activism during her teenage years in the Iranian Revolution to her current role in global advocacy, she spoke about representing Iranian and Kurdish women at the UN Commission on the Status of Women. Dr. Fallah emphasized the importance of humanitarian diplomacy and encouraged students to become agents of change.

Ginny Hatfield, Co-Vice President of UNA-SFV, concluded the session with insights on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the power of community activism. With leadership experience in organizations like the American Association of University Women and the Neighborhood Council of Valley Village, she highlighted how local involvement can drive significant global impact, urging attendees to join UNA-USA.

Fostering future leaders, the UNA-SFV Board received keynote speaker recognition, and the chapter looks forward to continued involvement in future Model UN conferences, connecting the San Fernando Valley to global initiatives through education and advocacy.
