Overview:
The United Nations Association of San Fernando Valley chapter hosted a virtual event focused on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), highlighting collective progress and exploring strategies to advance these goals by 2030. The event featured a keynote presentation by Dr. Paul Perrin, PhD, MPH, of the Pulte Institute for Global Development at the University of Notre Dame. Following his presentation, there was a facilitated Q&A session and a call to action to promote ongoing SDG advocacy.

The event began with an introduction by chapter president David Tukman and was moderated by Dr. Soraya Fallah, the chapter’s Vice President and Advocacy Chair. Dr. Fallah opened with an overview of the SDGs, introducing all 17 goals to familiarize the audience with this global framework addressing issues like poverty, inequality, and climate action.

Dr. Perrin provided an in-depth look at the progress and challenges associated with achieving the SDGs, emphasizing their interconnected nature and the importance of collaborative, data-driven solutions. Q&A Session
Following Dr. Perrin’s talk, attendees engaged in a facilitated Q&A session. Participants were encouraged to use the ‘raise hand’ icon or the chat box to submit questions, which fostered a dynamic exchange of ideas. Dr. Perrin answered questions on a range of topics, including SDG metrics and the role of youth in SDG advocacy.

Call to Action
Dr. Fallah concluded the event with a call to action, inviting attendees to scan a QR code provided at the end. As an  advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), I believe these goals represent one of the most critical frameworks for shaping our future.
