Coming soon, for Farsi Readers: An Educational interview series on Iranian opposition
On Sep 2024 in my interview with the Tomaj Foundation, I had
the opportunity to explore the complexities of the Iranian opposition,
reflecting on its evolution over the past 45 years and the challenges that lie
ahead. We discussed the essential need for unity and organizational cohesion
among diverse groups striving for meaningful change. I highlighted how
grassroots activism plays a pivotal role in mobilizing communities and
leveraging resources, which are key to sustaining impactful movements.
We delved into the intersectionality within women's rights
movements, particularly in Iran, where factors like ethnicity and
socio-economic status shape individual experiences. I underscored the
significant contributions of Kurdish parties and other marginalized groups
within the broader opposition landscape. By drawing parallels to global
examples, I demonstrated how diverse identities and perspectives strengthen the
inclusiveness and effectiveness of social justice efforts.
We also examined the unique role that the Iranian diaspora
plays in advocating for change, shedding light on how individuals of Iranian
descent around the world support and amplify these movements. Ultimately, the
interview emphasized how movements like 'Woman, Life, Freedom' embody unity,
resilience, and intersectionality, essential for pushing forward a vision of
political and social reform in Iran. Through both historical and contemporary
lenses, we aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the pathways
toward lasting change for the Iranian people.
